At 10 months old, my son began to crawl on all fours. This newfound mobility changed the dynamics of our household forever as he suddenly was exploring every nook and cranny he could get into.

On March 12, around 2:15 p.m. Hudson Fire Rescue was dispatched to a field fire in the 8800 block of Kimball in rural Waterloo. A few minutes later they were paged for a barn fire in the same area. This was then upgraded to a house fire at 8739 Kimball. Mutual aid was requested from Gilbertville Fire.

On February 24, Daykin Volunteer Fire Department burned a vacant dwelling. It was a great experience for new and experienced firefighters of the department. Submitted by Chief James Simms.

Last month the Pierre Dive Squad trained on retrievals in underwater structure with their masks “blacked out” to simulate zero visibility. Even though they can jump into the river, they are very thankful to have the YMCA’s support to practice these scenarios in a controlled (and warm) environment.

On Thursday, February 8, at approximately 14:48 hours, 911 received a report of a residential structure fire at 23579 SW 1100 road, Welda. Upon arrival units found a one-story home fully involved with fire. At the time of the fire the area was receiving close to 40 mph winds that were fanning the fire. Additional units were requested.
