Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life service for Bill Meehan will be held on July 3 at 6 p.m. at the Raymond Fire Station. The service will begin at 7 p.m. All emergency responders are asked to wear their uniform and everyone else to wear red, white and blue for Bill’s favorite holiday (Independence Day). There will be an “open mic” at the end of the service for those who would like to share their thoughts, stories and memories.

Bill enlisted in the Navy where he served on the Air Crash Rescue team aboard the Ticonderoga. When he returned to York, he began a 50-year career in the fire service that included time in York, the Nebraska State Fire Service (Training Division), Olathe, KS, Sidney, Gurley, Milford and Bennet. Bill retired in 2004 as the Program Chair of the Fire Protection Technology program at Southeast Community College in Lincoln. His leadership and dedication to the students in the program extended well beyond the classroom. Anyone with questions can contact Roseanne Scurto at firefightermeehan2u-honor@yahoo.com.
