Concordia structure fire

On Thursday, Feb. 20, Concordia Fire Department (CFD) and Concordia Police Department (CPD) staff responded to a structure fire at 211 East Fifth Street in town. One resident received second-degree burns that required medical attention, while another was lost to the blaze. According to a CPD press release, 211 East Fifth Street residents contacted 911 at about 11:06 a.m. CFD Fire Chief John Christensen said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The CPD release stated that two occupants were outside the home when emergency responders arrived, with one experiencing second-degree burns and another unharmed. The resident took a private vehicle to get treatment at the North Central Kansas Medical Center. Christensen said firefighters fully extinguished the fire at around 3 p.m. and began the recovery process. At 3:50 p.m., emergency responders, with the assistance of staff from the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office, found the third occupant, 58-year-old Marcus Stedman. The State Fire Marshal, CPD and CFD staff continue investigating the cause of the fire.
