Fire burns 700 acres southeast of North Platte

A fire southeast of North Platte on October 7 burnt about 700 acres on a windy day. Officials called for some evacuations, but no structures were lost.
It burnt in some canyons with cedar trees and some standing corn. There were fire departments from Paxton, Sutherland, Hershey, North Platte, Maxwell, Brady, McPherson County, Stapleton, Wellfleet, Maywood, Curtis and Wallace as well as the Forest Service. The Forest Service and Paxton did some burn outs which was a good opportunity for some of the departments to get some experience in burn out operations.
