Kearney restaurant fire

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal is investigating after a fire at a Kearney restaurant early Wednesday morning, Oct. 9. According to the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, a Kearney Police officer was called to Taco John’s, 419 E. 25th St., after dispatch received a security alarm. When the officer arrived on scene, he noticed smoke coming from the building and requested fire crews. Upon arrival, KVFD found heavy smoke throughout the building and smoke pushing through the building. Flames were observed coming through the roof, leading the incident commander to have crews exit the interior of the building due to safety concerns. KVFD said crews continued to fight the fire from the outside and got the fire under control by about 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire and working to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
