Rapid Response by Hill City Volunteer Firefighters Contain Fire to a Single Alarm
Hill City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported fire in the 24000 block of Highway 385, Hill City, Un-incorporated Pennington County SD on Jan. 21, 2025 at 2:22 a.m.
First arriving volunteer firefighters found an active fire in a residential structure with heavy fire and smoke conditions extending into the roof assembly.
Firefighters, facing sub freezing temperatures, including a windchill and snow packed ice-covered roads, stopped the spread of the fire, containing it to the structure of origin.
The American Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota, is assisting the residents.
No injuries to firefighters, civilians, domestic animals, or livestock were reported.
Agencies responding included Pennington County 911, Hill City Volunteer Fire Department, Hill City Ambulance Service, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Pennington County Fire Service, Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department, Black Hills Energy, and The Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota.
