Unexpected news

Greetings everyone. Last Friday (on my 43rd birthday, May 7th, 2021) I received some news that I thought I should share with all of you. A couple weeks ago I went to the doctor for an ear infection and a cough that I could not seem to shake. That day my doctor spotted a mass in my chest x ray and sent me to Ames for further testing at Mary Greely Medical Center / Bliss Cancer Center. After a two-week whirlwind of CT’s, MRI’s, and Biopsies, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes.

Next week I will begin chemo treatments that will continue for four to six months with radiation treatments to follow. The good side to all of this is my doctor is confident I will be cured.

My family is no stranger to this disease as my brother battled through this exact same cancer in 1996 and my dad in 2014. Both my brother and my dad were cured and have been cancer free ever since. I just wanted to inform you all firsthand and let you know I will do my best to continue to serve the IFA as best I can through this time.

With that being said, I know I must prioritize things with my health and family coming first so I can be here to lead this great association when it is my turn to do so.

We never know what tomorrow has in store for us so we must trust in the lord, keep our heads up and live life to the best of our abilities.

Until next time be safe and serve with pride.

Chuck Raska,

IFA 2nd Vice President
