     With most of my department’s current pumpers, we have the capability of electronic foam proportioning. This has been an amazing improvement in our fire suppression capabilities. With an onboard tank of foam, it is a matter of pushing a few buttons to provide a properly proportioned foam concentrate to the fire stream.

     Lake Mills, Joice and Emmons Fire Departments were called out to a barn fire at the Jason and Jaci Dilly acreage located on the north side of Rice Lake, Sunday evening, May 3. A spark from a burning brush fire is the suspected culprit. A second building started on fire, but the firefighters were able to save it.

     Cresco Community Fire Department received a report of combine fire in a field 1/2 mile south of Hwy. 9 on Robin Avenue at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th. 

Firefighters from the Tecumseh Fire District conducted a controlled burn for training on Saturday morning, May 2.

Members of Black Hawk, Box Elder, New Underwood, North Haines, Rapid Valley, and Whispering Pines Fire Departments took part in a prescribed burn on the afternoon of 8 May in rural Meade County.  This opportunity allowed some personnel working on qualification task books to receive valuable training.  Additionally, the controlled prescribed burn

Arnold house burn

     On Sunday, Oct. 6 the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department held a live fire training at 709 Woodland Drive in Arnold.  The house is owned by Dave and Sally Hildebrandt.

Barn fire

Fire departments from Viborg, Hurley, and Centerville responded to a barn fire at the Tim Flint farm of rural Viborg.

Cooler weather

     Good day Kansas Fire Service. As I write this, we are moving into the cooler weather of winter. We started with some early snow in late October in many areas of the state.

     Minnesota Firefighters, Time to wrap it up! As this newspaper hits your mailboxes, I will have about a month left in my fire career. That’s right! I’m calling it quits at the end of the year.
