When called into action for a fire we find ourselves rushing to extinguishment as quickly as possible. After all, we all know fires will just keep getting bigger if left unchecked right? Well, there are a few instances this is just a bad policy. One would be a compressed gas fire.

The Hawk Draw fire started about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 when hay bales hauled by a semi caught fire and it spread into the trees. Several Pennington County fire departments attacked the fire through Aug. 19. The fire spread to about 350 acres. Submitted by Trevor Fricke of the Wasta Volunteer Fire Department.

Yankton firefighters participated in the annual River City Domestic Violence Walk A Mile in Their Shoes event held at Riverside Park. The event is a fundraiser and awareness for domestic violence where participants walked a distance in high heels for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse.
