     There has been a lot of information in the news lately about firefighter cancer. Most of the recent publicity on this topic has focused on the link between foam and health. Firefighters have a nine percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 percent higher risk of dying from cancer than the general U.S.

     Jackson County Fire Departments responded to a reported smoke and flames visible in a structure, in the community of Wanblee, unincorporated Jackson County SD on June 5 at 4:43 a.m.

     First arriving volunteer firefighters found a free burning fire with heavy smoke conditions.

Barn fire

     Lake Mills, Joice and Emmons Fire Departments were called out to a barn fire at the Jason and Jaci Dilly acreage located on the north side of Rice Lake, Sunday evening, May 3.

Prescribed burn

Members of Black Hawk, Box Elder, New Underwood, North Haines, Rapid Valley, and Whispering Pines Fire Departments took part in a prescribed burn on the afternoon of 8 May in rural Meade County.  T
